What is UP Scholarship?

The UP Scholarship is a government-run financial assistance scheme in Uttar Pradesh, which supports students from class 9 to post graduation levels. The objective of this scheme is to support the students from the economically weaker sections, minority and reserved categories. Under this scheme, the students are offered assistance at the Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, etc., levels.

This scheme influences a very large group of students, as in 2025, the benefits were shared by more than 28 lakh students belonging to different sections and classes. All the beneficiaries under this scheme are provided with the benefits via direct benefits transfer (DBT).

Key Benefits of UP Scholarship

The UP Scholarship scheme comes with an objective to ensure equality and provide equal opportunity to every student across the state. There are several key benefits offered under this scheme, such as:

• This scheme covers the educational expenses such as tuition fees, maintenance allowance, and book allowances for students belonging to economically weaker sections
• Students at pre-metric levels are offered financial assistance between INR 2,000 and INR 5,000 annually
• Students at post-matric levels are offered financial assistance between INR 4,000 and INR 8,000 annually
• The students in graduation, post-graduation and professional courses are offered assistance between INR 6,000 and INR 20,000 annually
• The benefits under this scheme are provided directly to the student via a direct bank account transfer

UP Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the UP Scholarship, aspirants need to fulfil some eligibility conditions, such as:

• The applicant must be a resident of Uttar Pradesh
• It is required that the student must hold a domicile certificate issued by the concerned authorities
• The applicant must be pursuing their education at pre-metric, post-metric, graduation or post graduation levels from a recognised or approved institution
• The income limit of the applicants from the General/OBC/Minority is up to INR 2 lakh per year
• For the students belonging to SC/ ST categories, the income limit is up to INR 2.5 lakh per year
